THE MARTIAN

If you’re a science fiction film lover, or a person who loves survival films, you should give The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott, a chance. The movie was based on the book The Martian, by Andy Weir.  It is a brilliant adaption thanks to the great performances by Matt Damon as Mark Watney, Jessica Chastain as Melissa Lewis, Micheal Peña as major Ricky Martinez, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Vincent Kapoor and many others.  The movie has many accolades and praise from critics and the public. Some accolades received were the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and seven Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor for Matt Damon, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Drew Goddard. Mostly positive reviews- one critic has said, “Smart, thrilling, and surprisingly funny, The Martian offers a faithful adaptation of the bestselling book that brings out the best in leading man Matt Damon and director Ridley Scott.” Another critic also says that, “[the film] is the first genuine Mars movie. It is the first movie that attempts to be realistic. It is actually about human beings grappling with the problems of exploring Mars, as opposed to various movies set on Mars that are essentially either shoot ’em ups or horror films. It does not engage in fantasy: no monsters, no magic.” Overall, director Ridley Scott makes the theme of what it means to be human compelling- and that life goes on no matter what.

MOCKINGJAY PART 2

Ever since I can recall, The Hunger Games series has been one of my favorite fictional adventurous films. Being based on The Hunger Games trilogy of novels,  the actors Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne- all have done an amazing job portraying the books in the best manner they could, for which they’ve received incredible reviews from critics on. The series finished with the release of Mockingjay Part 2, which was held at number one at box-office for four consecutive weekends. “It has all the brooding themes from the novel while adding components that create an even deeper, more connected story line. I could not think of a better way to end the era of The Hunger Games. “Katniss Everdeen and the others have finally come full circle,” a critic states. The movie continues to show how Katniss fights, with the support of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, to save Peeta and a nation that was moved by her bravery and heroism. Mockingjay Part 2 will give you a sensation of emotion, action and unrestrained rage all in 137 minutes, which is why it should be one of the first movies added on your list if you haven’t watched it yet!
