Girls, we are so magical! There are so many positive things that might be said about women. A woman is a sister, a mother, and a person who gives us life. All women are very talented and incredible. Let’s take a minute and appreciate women in our society! In honor of the ending of Women’s History Month, we would like to remind everyone that everyday is a women’s day, so let’s not only stress the importance of women for one month a year. Each and everyone of us is different in our own way and that’s what makes us special.

What is Feminism?

Feminism, by its definition, is the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. Meaning, everyone can be a feminist, and you shouldn’t think it is only women who are feminists. For example, people like Harry Styles and Will Smith are feminists and are proud of it! Will Smith once said, “Boys laugh at what they put girls through, but they won’t be laughing when they are wiping tears off their daughters face for the same reason.” He believes that no bullying towards women is to be allowed. We love that, we need more people like Will Smith who won’t let toxic masculinity take over the world.

Women’s Suffrage is a very important topic to discuss. While the U.S. finally gave the right to women, in 1920, other countries still have a difficult time of letting women participate in government. In places like Vatican City, it is flat out impossible to get women’s voting rights. Vatican City is the only place where women aren’t allowed to vote or hold any legislative positions. While Saudi Arabia was the last country to allow women to vote in 2015, they are still having restrictions on women’s behavior and public, and have only recently allowed women to go to appointments or places without brothers, husbands, or a father’s permission. These changes were made only recently, which proves how sad the world truly is today, and how important it is to know what is going on in other countries around the world.

Let’s look at the numbers/statistics about women, and how many women yearly get sexually assaulted or raped. According to the research, it is said that girls around 12-34 are the main targets of pedophiles and men. Those age 65 and older are 92% less likely, than 12-24 year olds, to be a victim of rape or sexual assault, and 83% less likely than 25-49 year olds. These are very scary numbers. What we can infer by these stats is that the majority of girls who get sexually assaulted are under 30. Did you also know that 1 out of every 6 women has been a victim of an attempted rape in her lifetime? Of those there were 14.8% completed and 2.8% attempted! Millions of women in the U.S. have experienced rape, with an estimated number of 17.7 million American women getting raped since 1998.

We shouldn’t always associate rape with women. Boys/men also get assaulted just not as much as women. This in no way invalidates men who went through rape, because males ages 18-24 are 5 times more likely than any other group of men to be the victims of rape. All these numbers are scary and they need to be addressed! Let’s raise awareness and help those who have gone through an assault, to raise their voice and fight for justice!

Thanks for reading and let’s not forget how each and everyone one of us are important!
