A Game To Be Thankful For!

A Game To Be Thankful For!

It is the holiday season, and what have you got to be thankful for? Not sure? How about, Fallout 4! Bethesda Game Studios (the makers of the Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim, whom have adapted some of its features into this game as well) have finally released this hyped up masterpiece after 7 long years since the release of Fallout 3, where the child of a doctor named James is burdened to begin and finish the long awaited and planned Project Purity, a plan that would purify all the waters of the Tidal Basin and eventually the Potomac River. The games both take place in a post-apocalyptic time period after a Great War that left the world destroyed due to nuclear weaponry. Fallout 4 has already been released, as of November 10th for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC, however, let this article enlighten and encourage those turky-craving people out there who have not yet purchased and played the game! After all, creative director at Bethesda Game Studios, Todd Howard told Digital Spy and stated that, “the upcoming post-apocalyptic open-world RPG would is “1080p on everything,” continuing to confirm it would also run at 30fps, as opposed to 60fps.” So do not worry, there will be a lot of optimization settings, especially for PC users. This game is very promising and lived up to its fame after all.

With this new game, we are taken to post-apocalyptic Boston, year 2887, only 10 years after Fallout: New Vegas and 210 years after the Third World War. In this breathtaking campaign, we are introduced to the player and his wife Nora/Nate, depending on your gender, being admitted access to Vault 111, and being forced to evacuate to it quickly after a nuclear attack is taking place on October 23, 2077. However, they end up stuck in the Cryo tubes, and later we find that the player’s child was taken from his already-killed spouse. Now, it is up to the player, you, and yes, you, to find the child, Shaun, and avenge your spouse Nate/Nora. Much later, it is found out that the killer lives within a place below the ruins of the Commonwealth Institute of Technology, which is only accessible through teleportation, and now this leaves the player with a choice of choosing aid from one of the three factions available: the Minutemen, the Railroad, or the Brotherhood of Steel. Each one of them have their own goals in mind, and in the end, it turns out the child became the leader of this evil Institute, and thus, leaving the player with a tough choice, to assist the Institute with their takeover of the Commonwealth, assisting the Railroad in destroying the Institute and freeing the Synths, or help the Brotherhood of Steel destroy the Institute AND the Synths. In the end, it’s a question of morality and ethics. YOU have the power and the choice to live your life! Games like these are very beneficial, they help you decide and think for yourself better. Who will you save and defeat?

But, wait! What else is there to do in this game! This game offers a bunch more interesting things to keep you busy while you go on your quests AND side-quests. To start off, you have Freedom & Liberty, according to GameStop’s Fallout 4 official game pages, you can “Do whatever you want in a massive open world with hundreds of locations, characters, and quests. Join multiple factions vying for power or go it alone, the choices are all yours.”That is a must-have in every game, because it lets players explore their world, their characters and develop more insight to the story and their surroundings. This also adds to the whole, “The world is what you make of it” saying, too. You can be WHOEVER you want, you can be a special character, now with the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. character system(duh!); a Power-armored Soldier, and develop your own personality with perks to choose from. Want to be charismatic and smooth since you obviously aren’t in reality? I’m kidding. But yes, you get the point! And last, but not least, you can also be a scavenger and collect, upgrade and craft thousands of items, whether it be armor, chemicals, food, etc; as a result of the advanced crafting system that was beefed up! You can control a settlement, like in Rust or DayZ, as well. In fact, like in Skyrim, your character has a limited amount of things he/she can carry, and if it is reached, you will be sluggish. How much more real can this game get?

Enough talking! Enough procrastination! Go out and get yourself this beautiful game, be a part of the hype and be thankful that you got it. Let this game feed your hunger, instead, for it is a new life you are stepping into. Step into the future… And to conclude, have a very happy and safe holiday season!
