Wrestling Team 2020

Wrestling+Team+2020

The 2020 Wrestling team came to pin and win. After graduating two city champions in 2019, the Cougar grapplers entered the season hungry for more gold. Coach Daiello has been an amazing coach at FDR for several years, and his passion for Wrestling Team radiates success and never-ending persistence.

Q&A with Coach Daiello:

  • What is the most rewarding part of being a coach?

The most rewarding part of being a coach is when our wrestlers practice and put all  their effort into matches. Our wrestlers’ success is a testament to the hard work put in by our team up in Gym D.

  • What are some of the accomplishments made by this year’s captains?

This year’s captains are Giorgi Kantroshvili, Timur Uslanov, and Islom Nurullaev. Giorgi opened this season by winning gold medals in the Murrow, Truman, and KIPP Tournaments. Timur took home a bronze medal at Murrow and brought home gold from Truman and KIPP. In addition, Islom earned a gold medal at the Truman and KIPP Tournament, and as the only senior, looks to make his mark on the mats this season.

  • How does the team differ from last year’s team? Any similarities?

This year’s lineup consisted of eleven new wrestlers that looked to their captains to guide them on and off the mats. Even though two city champions in 2019 graduated, the 2020 Wrestling team remains hungry for more victories and is motivated to succeed like never before.

  • Any promising players on the team that caught your attention?

The countless hours of tough practices give our new wrestlers like Munisjon Farkhatov, Francisco Muriel, Asad Hussein, Tony Li, Aslanbek Sharipov, and Giorgiy Sarybekov the physical and mental toughness to step on the mat with confidence.

With a promising group of freshmen, the Cougar Wrestling Team has a lot to look forward in the next few years. A special thanks to Coach Daiello for taking time during this busy part of the season. Good luck to the FDR’s Wrestling Team and make us proud in upcoming seasons!
