FDR Baseball Opening Day!

FDR Baseball Opening Day!

The brutal and bitter winter that is robbing the world of it’s warmth and beautiful scenery is coming to a close. Spring is here and so is baseball season! The FDR baseball team is back and hungrier than ever before. With the majority of the team consisting of seniors, this season will be the last chance to do some damage within their division. Many veterans from previous years have returned, coupled with a myriad of new faces that have amazing potential. Coached by Michael Garcia and led by their captain, James Barasch, the Cougars are working hard every single day to reach their goal. Whether it is grinding in the batting cages for hours upon hours, or honing their defensive prowess on the field with reps of fly balls and grounders, this season means everything for a team consisting of mostly seniors.

FDR exploded today with a 14-3 victory over Uncommon High School, a team that had previously went undefeated in their division. Solids hits from James Barasch, Kenny Scottborgh and Adrian Tavarez helped ignited the offense early on. Jeremy Perez pitched a fantastic streak, recording seven strikeouts. It was a great victory for the Cougars who are in pursuit of a championship run and improving upon their eight and eight record last year.

Staying healthy of course is at the highest priority, due to PSAL’s brutal sixteen game schedule, where games are tightly knit together. Playing consecutive games back to back is a common feat which can take a toll on a player’s body, both physically and mentally. Luckily, many of the team’s games are located right at their home field, Six Diamonds. It’s the last stop on the N right at Coney. The abundance of home games means that there are plenty of chances to show support for the team . Who doesn’t love a good old fashion ball game? Come cheer on FDR and let’s go Cougars!
