Congratulations to Matthew Grubin for being named the Male Underclassman of the Year. Matthew loves attending FDR, and he considers the school his happy place. He really enjoys working with the staff and students here in Cougar Country!

Matthew’s favorite subjects are History, Science, and Math.  He particularly enjoys Social Studies, because it is “high order thinking.” He loves debating historical situations and being exposed to information and viewpoints he did not know. Math and Science are incredibly relevant to our world today, so Matthew enjoys finding connections between the curriculum he his studying, and our ever changing world.

Matthew is involved in the Robotics Club, Mock Trial, Model U.N., and the New Dealer. He joined these specific clubs to expand his horizons. Matthew is very interested in studying Criminal Justice and Law in college, so the Mock Trial team seemed like a great opportunity for him. He is looking forward to working on his public speaking skills and constructing / defending counter arguments.  Matthew would advise new students at FDR to not be narrow minded or negative. He thinks it is important for young people to speak their minds and develop diverse relationships.

Matthew is very grateful that his hard work and dedication to FDR is paying off. He believes he was chosen for this honor, because of his work ethic and interest in making FDR a better place. Matthew is clearly a rising star, and a Cougar to watch over the next three years. Way to go Matthew!
