Eid- An Islamic Holiday

Eid-+An+Islamic+Holiday

Ramadan a month of fasting from sunrise to sunset, along with periods of introspection and prayer, comes to an end on Eid. There are many different ways people celebrate, but the main event usually consists of a large meal that begins with prayers. People will be celebrating, Eid al-Fitr, all across the world!

The most popular dishes served during Eid in South Asia are shahi tukda, halwa, kheer, and sheer kurma. Popular foods include chomchoms, barfis, gulabjamuns, various pithas, and roshmalai. On Eid-al-Fitr, these are not only given to family and friends when visiting, but they are also consumed within homes.

What clothes do Muslims wear on Eid al-Fitr?
Muslim men and women can wear their regular clothes, but both must be brand-new or in excellent condition. Muslim women typically dress in traditional attire, such as long dresses and hijabs. When it comes to the festive occasion of Eid al-Fitr, they typically opt for modest, cozy, and fashionable attire.

What are ways to spend the day of Eid?
Two to three days are dedicated to celebrating Eid al-Fitr, which includes unique morning prayers. “Eid Mubarak,” or “Blessed Eid,” is the greeting exchanged, along with formal embraces. At home, sweet treats are made, and gifts are given to underprivileged people and children.

Eid this year should be in April, as Ramadan starts in March. As Eid approaches, feel free to ask a Muslim friend any questions about the holiday!
