Game Review

pg 4 pic 6 Every year around mid November, the hype is high. The Call Of Duty series, which is run by Infinity Ward and Treyarch, comes out with a new game to add to its series every year before the holidays. Wherever you go in the school, you can always overhear people talking about what round they got up to in Zombies or what level and prestige they are. During November 2012, Black Ops 2 was released hitting groundbreaking records. The series never seems to fail on that.
Campaign. The story takes place in the not-too-distant future in 2025, but at the same time of the Cold War era. The reason this occurs is because David Mason, the son of Alex Mason, and his fellow soldiers are trying to get the full story on their target that is a terrorist. David visits his father’s wartime buddy, Woods, in a retirement home. In the game, players control both Mason, in the future, where the gadgets are out of this world and Papa Mason, in the past, where weapons are slightly less advanced. A feature I think is impressive is the set of “Strike Force Missions” that have an impact on the ending the player gets in the game. These missions are when a player is dropped into a multiplayer looking map, and is given a series of objectives to succeed.
Multiplayer. My favorite part about the game is the multiplayer. Treyarch made dramatic changes to the multiplayer system of the game to make it more customizable. The gameplay on the other hand is the same old system as it was before. Some changes can be that they included a system where you get tokens to unlock certain gadgets. Also, what I find useful is the fact that you have 10 slots to fill up with equipment. If in the last couple games you didn’t really use a secondary, you can swap that out for an extra attachment or any of the options they give. Another new feature is the addition of Wild Cards, where a player can choose a Wild Card and that will, for example, use another perk from a category you already chose one from.
Zombies. In the zombie game mode, they added two different match types. In Transit, players catch a bus that carries them between maps where they can obtain weapons and equipment. In Grief, there are two sides in which players are split up into. The last man standing wins the match.
Conclusion. With the release of Halo 4, and other great games that came out in 2012, I think it’s hard to say if this is the best. I played it myself and I found nothing wrong with it, but there’s always a repetition with the COD series. The same gameplay is starting to feel like déjà vu each time I play a new title. Although, I don’t deny that it is one of the top games of 2012, I can confidently say this game is a solid 9 out of 10.
