Buckle up FDRHS, and get ready, because something big, green, and mean is stomping its way onto FDR’s stage this spring! The FDRHS Theatre Company is thrilled to announce that this year’s show is Shrek the Musical on May 13-16! Whether you’re a fan of the film, talking donkeys, or just want to see fire-breathing dragons, you won’t want to miss this fairytale world brought to life on the FDR stage.
Shrek is about a giant, grumpy, green ogre whose goal is to get his swamp back after Lord Farquaad banishes all of the fairytale creatures to Shrek’s swamp. In order to get his swamp back, Shrek agrees to rescue Princess Fiona, who Farquaad is determined to marry, in order to be king, from her dragon-guarded tower. While on this quest, Shrek is accompanied by a talkative yet hilarious Donkey. Shrek rescues Princess Fiona, falls in love with her, and discovers that she has been keeping a dark secret.
The FDRHS Theatre Company has been working really hard to bring you guys an amazing show. According to Ms. Porter, “The biggest challenge has been picking a show that is right for our students, as well as entertaining for an audience. We also need to consider if we can afford/fundraise to put on.” The Theatre Company has been fundraising for the show all year, hosting bake sales, craft sales, and movie nights (which you should definitely support), to raise money and put on the musical. Ms. Porter says, “I expect that the students will have a fun time putting on a show; that they will learn more about theatre, which will increase their confidence, communication skills, and responsibility. I also hope that people will come to support our hard work and that the audience will love it.”
This production is about so much more than just flashy costumes and songs; its about the hard work, dedication, and the community that makes FDR so special. So, be sure to mark your calendars, grab a friend, grab a ticket, and keep your eyes peeled for the next bake sale. Let’s make sure that the theatre company has a full house to support and cheer them on. After all, all of the coolest fairytale creatures are going to be there and so should you. See you at the swamp!
