As the Class of 2026 gets ready to graduate and the school year comes to an end, it feels like everything is changing all at once. For the past four years, our lives have revolved around the same hallways, classrooms, lunch periods, and routines. Now, suddenly, we are preparing to move on from the place that became such a big part of our lives.
High school gave us more than grades and transcripts. It gave us memories, lessons, friendships, and experiences that shaped who we are. As we step into this next chapter, there are definitely things we are taking with us and other things we are finally ready to leave behind.
One thing many seniors are taking with them is resilience. High school taught us how to handle pressure even when we felt overwhelmed. We learned how to balance school, sports, clubs, work, family responsibilities, and social lives, and even drama all at the same time. Even during moments when things felt stressful or uncertain, we kept going. Looking back now, it is clear that we are stronger and more capable than we once thought.
We are also taking the friendships we built along the way. Some of the people we met here became the people who made hard days easier and good days even better. From inside jokes in class, to getting hit in the face with a volleyball in gym our freshmen year and still talking about it senior year, those moments became part of our everyday lives. Even if we all end up in different places after graduation, those memories will stay with us.
Another thing we are carrying into the future is confidence. High school gave many of us the chance to discover new interests and talents. Some students found their passion through sports, music, leadership, art, science, or writing. Others simply learned how to believe in themselves more. Over time, we stopped being freshmen trying to figure everything out and became seniors who are ready to take on something new.
At the same time, there are things we are more than ready to leave behind.
Many seniors are leaving behind the constant pressure to fit in or impress everyone around them. High school can sometimes feel like everyone is watching each other all the time. As graduation gets closer, a lot of us are realizing that being yourself matters more than trying to meet everyone else’s expectations.
We are also leaving behind unhealthy habits that became way too normal during high school. Late night cramming, procrastinating assignments until the last second, running on little sleep, and stressing over every small thing are routines many of us do not want to bring into adulthood. We learned that working hard matters, but so does taking care of ourselves.
Most importantly, we are learning to leave behind the fear of change. Starting a completely new chapter is exciting, but it can also feel scary. Some seniors are heading to college while others are entering the workforce, taking gap years, or still deciding what comes next. No matter where we are going, everyone is facing some level of uncertainty right now.
The truth is that nobody has everything figured out yet, and that is completely normal.
The Class of 2026 is leaving high school with lessons that go far beyond academics. We are leaving with memories we will talk about for years, friendships that helped shape us, and experiences that taught us how to grow. While we are saying goodbye to familiar routines and faces, we are also stepping toward new opportunities, new experiences, and new versions of ourselves.
No matter where life takes us next, high school will always be a part of our story.
As this is my last article for the newspaper, it feels bittersweet knowing this chapter is coming to an end. Being part of the newspaper helped me find confidence in my voice and allowed me to connect with others through my writing. I want to thank Mr. Sullivan for always believing in me and encouraging me throughout this experience. That support meant more than words can explain.
To everyone who took the time to read my articles, thank you. And to the Class of 2026, here’s to everything we are taking with us and everything waiting ahead!
