FDR’s YABC is very lucky to have many hard working students. As graduation nears, we would like to share the thoughts of three students as they prepare to move on from our program. All the counselors, teachers, support staff, and Mr. Ragucci are very proud of their efforts this past year!
What brought you to YABC, and how did you first learn about it?
Alma V.
What brought me to YABC was working to get my credits, so that I could get my diploma. I then met teachers and staff that made me want to open up and have a more enjoyable time here. I have made many new friends.
Adrian V.
I learned about YABC from my sister, my counselor, and from the New Utrecht staff. They all told me about the program. I love it!
Kyle L.
What brought me to YABC was the overload of regular school work. I started looking for better alternatives and through the aid of my counselor, I was first established in the YABC program.
Looking back on your first day at YABC, how do you feel you’ve changed as a person since then?
Alam V.
I was more closed off and was not social, until some staff and teachers helped me have conversations where I opened up. I am now more social thanks to YABC.
Adrian V.
I feel I have become more kind and sharing. YABC also helped me with getting my first job!
Kyle L.
I feel I have had a lot of personal growth since starting at YABC. I have learned how to self manage and create a personal routine, as well as sticking to that routine.
What are your experiences being a YABC student, and what is something you will take away from your time at YABC?
Alam V.
I was closed off and kept to myself. I didn’t interact with anyone until I entered a group. Yet, something I would take away from YABC would be to interact and be the first to talk or take the leap into conversations. Students should take the risk of meeting people. It is worth it!
Adrian V.
My experience at YABC was positive. The counselors and teachers were all caring and motivated me to finish all my work.
Kyle L.
My experiences are priceless, and I will reflect and carry them with me for the rest of my life. One thing I would take away from my time at YABC is there’s always, and will always be, people ready to assist you on your journey through life.
If you could give advice to new students coming to YABC, what would you say?
Alam V.
I would say enjoy your time here and have fun. YABC is more relaxed than a regular school. You just have to take a chance. Take a risk and talk to whoever looks interesting to you. Also, take it seriously. It’s your chance to make things up, so you can graduate. Take the opportunity to have a base for your future.
Adrian V.
My advice to a new student in YABC would be to come with a learning and open mind. You will love it. YABC is a nice and positive environment.
Kyle L.
I would advise them to break up the workload into portions so as to not end up cramming. Furthermore, I would tell them to prioritize YABC attendance, for the reason that showing up is equally as iImportant as completing the work.
Congrats graduates! Your FDR family loves you and will miss you!
