Usually a high school senior’s capstone essay would be on a research topic that they are interested in. But, that was not the case for Pippa Fitz-Amobi. When I found the book, A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder, by Holly Jackson, the title interested me. I did not know what to expect. I started reading the book, and I could not stop reading. The book is about a high school student who chooses to do her senior capstone essay on a closed case from five years ago. It is not just any case, it happened in her town, and she knew the people involved.

Eighteen year old, Sal Singh, allegedly killed his popular girlfriend seventeen year old, Andie Bell. Then, killed himself a few days later. Although the case is closed, Pippa is determined to prove Sal was innocent. Sal was her best friend Cara’s older sister Naomi’s close friend. Sal had taught Pip a lot while she was growing up. With the help of Ravi Singh, Sal’s younger brother, Pip started investigating. They start interviewing Andie and Sal’s friends and associates. They also do a little bit of snooping which leads them to find information and secrets that police had not found at the time. Fairview was a small town with dark secrets. Did Sal actually kill Andie and proceed to kill himself a few days later? Once Pip and Ravi put all the details together it all makes sense.

This book is great for anyone that enjoys true crime documentaries or mystery novels. The plot is suspenseful and easy to follow and understand.  Check it out!
