Me vs Myself- Album Review

Me+vs+Myself-+Album+Review

Artist Julius DuBose better known as, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, or, A Boogie, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was born on December 6, 1995 in Bronx New York, and he started rapping at the age of 12. He is signed to Atlantic Records, as well as his own label imprint, Highbridge the Label. He had a few charting singles which included Look Back, which debuted at no. 27 on the Hot 100, and Drowning, which debuted at no. 38 on the Hot 100.

On December 9, 2022 he dropped his fourth and latest studio album titled Me vs. Myself. Me vs. Myself has 22 songs and features artists like, Lil Durk, H.E.R, and Codak Black. The album was going to be called Artist vs. A Boogie, but he chose to name it Me vs. Myself. By looking at the title, most fans were expecting a collection of songs rife with internal conflict. Instead, the album takes listeners through aback-and-forth battle between his two alter egos; A Boogie and Artist. Songs by Artist tend to vulnerablele and revolve around heartbreak and love. In an interview, he described it as, “in your feelings.” In Me vs. Myself, songs like Emotions, and Come Here focus on the aspect of love, while February focuses on love and heartbreak.

Songs by A Boogie have more of a street vibe, he described it as being, “in your bag.” His song Water (Drowning Pt. 2) featuring Codak Black is a part 2 to his song Drowning that went viral in 2016. He sings about his lifestyle before and his lifestyle now. In the song, Money Conversations, he talks about not making conversation, unless it has to do with money and how he changed his life from being a, “gangster.”

Fans were disappointed, because A Boogie only stuck to his main flows. They were expecting him to bring in a different flow. But, I am a big A Boogie fan, and I don’t mind him keeping the same flow. He knows that it works for him, so he keeps using it. My favorite song from the album is, Bounce Back, because the whole message of the song is to not give up. In the song he says, “I had to lose to win,” which mean although you lost that does not mean it is the end of the world. Plus, the lyrics go nicely with the beat and the lyrics are catchy. If you need new music to listen to, definitely check out A Boogie and his recent album!
