One of the most recognizable teams in baseball history is the New York Yankees. Home to athletes such Joe Dimaggio, Derek Jeter, and Babe Ruth. The Yankees are known for their multiple American League championships and 27 World Series victories.

At the start of the season, the 2022 Yankees were the best team in Major League Baseball. By August 2022, the Yankees had an August record of 10 wins and 18 losses. This record was very disappointing for Yankees fans everywhere. With players like Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole on their roster, how could the Yankees lose so many games?

The answer is team injuries! Players like Giancarlo Stanton, Matt Carpenter, DJ Lemaheiu, Clay Holmes, and others had injuries in August. The Yankees valued these players greatly. Without these players, the Yankees were forced to play rookies and benchwarmers. The Yankees embarked on a losing streak, finishing August with one of the poorest records in the American League. They lost their 15-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East, due to their lack of experienced players.

While August was a terrible month for the Yankees, September has proven to be better. Currently the team has a record of 16 wins and 7 losses, and the Yanks clinched the American League East! Aaron Judge, the team’s standout player, has hit 62 home runs and broken the real “non-steroid” home run record. Players like Josh Donaldson, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Gleyber Torres have improved and helped carry the teams’ offense. The Yankees are once again a Major League Baseball powerhouse! Let’s hope for that 28th World Series Championship!
